Productive Urbanism: Training school staff on Urban Agriculture

With the idea to bring an awareness of where our food comes from, and how we could promote some degree of sustainable agriculture within the educational framework, an Urban Agriculture Pedagogy Toolkit - ‘Growing in the City’ was developed.

Noticing how children were increasingly disconnected from the community and where their food comes from in this digital age, we became motivated to impart meaningful learning experiences in tandem with academic curricula. Thus, the toolkit was adapted to create a more accessible workshop model, and through the workshops, we will engage with school gardeners, teachers, and students to expand/ maintain the school kitchen garden and use it to teach, so students can ‘learn by doing’. In the time to come, we look forward to engaging with 5 schools within Delhi NCR and conducting workshops of 2 two-hour sessions each in schools with the hope of integrating the toolkit into classroom teaching!
